Lake Fausse Pointe State Park, St. Martinville, LA

September 10 - 12, 2021 Mosquitoes, mosquitoes, and more mosquitoes!  Beautiful park, but the bugs outnumbered us two to one.  We arrived on Friday and had planned on staying until Monday - my birthday.  But, once again, the weather decided to play with us.  And we ended up leaving Sunday afternoon.  Tropical Storm Nicholas (came in as a Hurricane 1) was nothing for us, but we couldn't take that chance.   The park is located along the Levee outside St. Martinville.  It's shady, peaceful, and lots of fishermen were there with their boats.  The splash pad for the kids was the best I've seen with several playgrounds throughout the park.  The bathrooms were very clean with showers, but the laundry room was closed. There are no restaurants or stores close by, so make sure you bring in everything.  We were at a site with no sewer hook-ups, but that was not a problem as we were across from the bathrooms.  There was a troop of girl sco...

Lakeview (Visiting Again)

  August 23 - 24, 2021 Second visit to Lakeview.  We like bringing the littles with us here because they have a bounce pillow, a lake with a sandy beach, and a fishing lake.   We left Friday after I picked one of the littles up from his school.  Off we set, knowing a hurricane was in the Gulf.  We headed further east than where we live, so we kept a close eye on the storm.  We grilled, watched movies, and headed to bed. Saturday morning, we took the littles to the beach where they had a blast.  They played in the sand, sat in the water, and just generally enjoyed themselves.  After lunch, we headed to the campground store where they got candy.  We then headed home a day early.  What is normally a 1-1/2 hour trip took 3 hours.  But, it was fine, and we were glad we headed in.  Hurricanes in the Gulf are nothing to sneeze at, and Ida ended up hitting early.  We were spared - unfortunately, the east of the state was not....
