Palmetto Island State Park, Abbeville, LA

February 11 to February 13, 2022 This is a state park for Louisiana, and once again they have done a great job in making these parks so nice.  We decided to get away for a quick weekend, and it couldn't have been more perfect.  The weather cooperated.  We arrived Friday morning and set up.  The spaces were very large, woodsy, and private.  We did not have full hookups, but the park has two separate bath houses with washer/dryers in each of them.  This was supposedly a black bear area, but once again, no such luck in seeing any.   Saturday after we ran the park, we went out to eat at Shuck's in Abbeville.  It was really chilly, but we sat on the patio next to heaters.  It's a nice place with a singer and good food.  Our order was lost,, but the waitress was so sweet.  They gave us 50% off and a free bread pudding.  Probably the best bread pudding in a  long time. We saw buzzards and only two deer as we were leaving.  I would go back to this park.  The splash pad was the larg

Friday, January 7 - 12, 2022 A trip that was so fun. We stayed at mile marker 309 in Texas on Friday night after leaving early that morning. It was very windy but looking out the window we could see the mountains. We got up the next morning and arrived at White's City RV Park, Whites City, New Mexico.  It's a town at the base of Carlsbad Caverns National Park.  Very old park but perfect for our needs.  We had a pull-in site next to the bathroom.  We settled in and got ready for the next day.  Sunday, we headed to Guadalupe Mountain National Park where we hiked and explored.  This part of the U.S. is so beautiful with mountains in the Chihuahuan Desert.  We then went into Carlsbad and ate dinner.  I wanted Mexican food, but nothing was open, so we ended up at a Chili's.  Monday, we had reservations for Carlsbad Caverns and went there. It is 7 miles into the park to the Caverns.  We took the walkway down into the Cavern, and it took over an hour to get down there.  It is 75 s

December 10 - 12, 2021 We took the littles with us this time.  We left Friday morning and arrived around 1:00 after stopping for lunch at McDonald's in Monroe.  While Ricky finished setting up, we rode our bikes to the office to get our tags, but they weren't open yet. So, we rode to one of the playgrounds which they loved. This park is probably my favorite of all the parks we've visited so far.  It's beautiful with trails and is designed with children in mind.  There is a swimming pool, two storywalk trails, camping, fishing, and cabins.  The pavilions that you rent have their own bathrooms and lights.  The campsites are large and level. The bathrooms and laundry room were very clean and well-lit.   Down at the water there is a tree called the Castle Tree.  It is thought to be a thousand years old and is so large you can canoe or kayak through it.  I highly recommend this park.

Nov. 20 - 28, 2021                              Wow!  What a trip!  We began on Saturday and lot camped at Cracker Barrel in Suwanee, Georgia.  It was rainy and cold when we woke up on Sunday. We had breakfast and then hit the road.  We arrived at Hickory Nut Family Campground and set up.  What a gorgeous place to stay for the week!   After setting up, we headed to the grocery store.  We came back, and I fixed our routine chili and cornbread.  We got up the next morning and headed to Chimney Rock.  What a climb!  It was cold and very windy.   We then headed down to the falls where "The Last Mohican" was filmed.  Such a beautiful place. We came down and ate in town.   Tuesday, we headed to Rumbling Bald where we hiked and met some rock climbers who allowed me to take their picture. We ate at Burntshirt Vineyards after heading to the Flowering Bridge. Thursday was Thanksgiving Day.  We started the day with a short run and then I cooked turkey, Brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes,

October 15 - 17, 2021 🍂Little Boo Weekend!  What a great time.  We arrived Friday with the littles after picking the oldest up early from school.  We arrived, and it was a downpour.  Our golf cart we had rented was waiting for us. They got their bathing suits on and played in the puddles, and then we headed to the pool.  It was hot and enjoyable.  Saturday morning we woke up, ate pancakes and met the day.  It was cooler this morning so we hung out, decorated the campsite for Trick or Treating, and went for a golf cart ride.  The littles went fishing with Granddad, and I cleaned up.  We went and got a craft and brought it back and ate lunch.  The campground had activities planned all day, but we just kinda chilled.  They wanted to swim again, but the wind was so cold, we couldn't do it.  That night, they dressed and off they went.  It was such a great time, and they enjoyed themselves.  We wanted to stay another night and go to the Prehistoric Park, but they wanted to head home, s

September 24 - 26 One of our favorite places to camp.  We were here in January and just had to return.  We got the same exact spot as last time, and it was great.  Gorgeous weather - sunny and cool at night.  Again, we didn’t see any bears, but oh well.  We ate at Thomson’s Drugstore in Delhi on Friday afternoon. They make chocolate sodas, but it was just ok. Great camp host and the sites are well- spaced. The bathroom was spotless with the laundry room being open. There is a playground and splash pad for the kids.  Saturday we just hung around and ate out at the local golf course at Champion’s Bistro.  They make the best nacho plate I’ve ever eaten. I had it in January and had to try it again.  Just as good as before.  We left Sunday and had a pleasant drive home.  No one, and I mean no one wears a mask in north Louisiana.  Such a shame. Beautiful country, though.

September 10 - 12, 2021 Mosquitoes, mosquitoes, and more mosquitoes!  Beautiful park, but the bugs outnumbered us two to one.  We arrived on Friday and had planned on staying until Monday - my birthday.  But, once again, the weather decided to play with us.  And we ended up leaving Sunday afternoon.  Tropical Storm Nicholas (came in as a Hurricane 1) was nothing for us, but we couldn't take that chance.   The park is located along the Levee outside St. Martinville.  It's shady, peaceful, and lots of fishermen were there with their boats.  The splash pad for the kids was the best I've seen with several playgrounds throughout the park.  The bathrooms were very clean with showers, but the laundry room was closed. There are no restaurants or stores close by, so make sure you bring in everything.  We were at a site with no sewer hook-ups, but that was not a problem as we were across from the bathrooms.  There was a troop of girl scouts staying down from us, and they had a blast.
